AWS Cloud Infra Gotchas
  • You can run AWS Batch jobs as pods in your Kubernetes cluster. Pretty cool actually. As expected the AWS tutorial is reliable, you follow it step by step and you will get the desired result. No gotchas. Unlike other clouds.
  • AWS ECR - has got a feature called pull through cache rules - it copies over caches public repos to your private ECR
    • When must you use this? Always brother, always. I have faced the same scenario at multiple companies, where once you start scaling up FAST, all those public registries are gonna block your a**. And you find yourself scrambling to retag and upload images to your ECR. Don’t. One must live a premeditated life.
  • When you are giving write access to a S3 bucket. Don’t be doing just s3:Put* , don’t forget your big boy s3:CreateMultipartUpload
  • S3 Tagging API is free - you can query objects based on tags using Athena
    • This reminds of the funny meme quote: “Birds in the park are free, you can just take them home”
